中三TSA會問人英語修辭技巧, 尤其常見有alliteration 和personalification. 我用了明報英語網有篇文內的例子向學生解釋:

【明報專訊】寫了兩三次關於acronym（首字母縮略字）及simple English的稿，有朋友建議我舉些我喜歡及有趣的alliteration（頭韻）例子，因alliteration用得恰當，往往增加用詞的效力，亦可以幫助初學英文的學生訓練發音。小學的時候，最喜歡朗誦以下全部用alliteration的「打油詩」：

Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled pepper / A peck of pickled pepper Peter Piper picked / If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled pepper / Where's the peck of pickled pepper Peter Piper picked?

請也試試朗誦這首詩，你可能發覺其中樂趣。若用錯「懶音」，P字好容易會讀成B字的。

很多作家想用簡單而有力的題目或字眼來描寫某些時代的人物，也常用alliteration。還記得有hippies（嬉皮士）、Joan Baez及初發明避孕丸的60年代嗎？有人喜歡描寫那「大解放」的10年為swinging sixties，半世後我們還是用這alliteration形容這年代，貼切不過。70年代的光彩風華則用sensational seventies（又一alliteration）去描寫，也是一絕。

年齡上，我剛好度過了10年flaming fifties（美國著名女作家Gail Sheehy用此alliteration來描寫要出色地度過更年期的婦女），現在希望輕鬆愉快地度過我的swinging sixties。但有幾個踏入70歲這關頭的女朋友，我不能不提，因她們見證了sensational seventies這講法，她們就是我最欣賞的陳方安生（Anson）、陸方寧生（Ninson）姊妹，以及我的良師益友鄧蓮如勳爵（Lydia）。

Anson及Lydia對香港公績上的貢獻已毋須介紹，我在此除了再說感激及佩服外，更想借用她倆出色的外表、性格及人生哲學來證實70來歲的人，無論男或女（男的我會以梁智鴻、李鵬飛作例子）都可以繼續作另類「模」（即俗語說「仔」的「模範」！），繼續sensational下去。Ninson也不遑多讓，在旅遊界叱吒風雲後，在商界再顯神通。她們三人的passion：passion for people, passion for public service, passion for private enterprise（希望這個alliteration用得恰當）是時下青年可借鏡的，也是她們幾名長青樹的秘訣。

歸根究柢，成功地做人、做事真是要具備積極的人生哲學及懂得維持健康的體魄。Life depends on the liver這又是alliteration，又是pun（雙關語）。Pun的用法下回再介紹 。這一句是中英文都特別出色的前上司徐淦老師常用的，勉勵我們做人做事都要靠健康的身體及正確的人生觀方可成功。徐老師也剛過了sensational seventies，正享受他的enterprising eighties，不時繼續教導我們。

懂得用alliteration來加強英文字句的力度，往往都奏效的。希望以下的忠告：Don't Do Drugs，也會對年輕人有所警惕，遠離毒品！
