letter of advice: example

Example

Question:
Below is a letter written to you from your friend. Read it carefully and write a reply. Give reasons for your advice. Begin your letter Dear Pat and sign it Chris.
Dear Chris,
Please can you give me some advice?Ever since I changed school last year, I havent made any friends. As you know, I like playing video games so much. I have nothing to do but playing games in my leisure time. I feel good as I can escape from the reality. Anyway, my mom scolded me whenever I play video games (even for a minute). She thinks that playing video games is just like taking drugs. It does only harm to teenagers. What can I do?
Pat

Sample letter:

Dear Pat,

Glad to receive your letter. Howre things with you? I am sorry to hear that youre scolded by your mom when you are doing what you like. But you somehow misbehave as you are indulged in playing video games.

Youre indulged partly because you need friends. You believe playing video games is a necessary part of your connections with others. But the key here is to prioritize whats important to you. Is it more important for you to spend time playing video games than meeting friends? Frankly, if you think so, dont expect others to come close to you!

I understand the pressure youre under to study hard and to adapt yourself to the new study environment. But escaping into a virtual world isnt the solutionYou should learn to be more self-reliant and face your problems bravely. Try to talk with your parents and school counselor and theyll give you some useful advice.

Now Im not saying that playing video games is bad, but if you spend too much time playing them, your health and schoolwork will suffer. Youd better spend more time playing outdoors to romp in the sunshine ( I know your dad likes hiking very much), and playing sports with your friends.
Last, playing video games can indeed be a part of a well-balanced life, but if it interferes with your enjoyment of other things, then its time for you to set some limits. Do try to maintain a balance and get the best of what it offers. Im sure your mum will finally understand.

Got to stop now-I have so much homework to do. Drop me a few lines when you have time and I hope my advice can help you.

Best wishes,
Chris
