as well as 的agreement 問題

My wife goes to church.

My wife, as well as her mother, goes to church.

在第二句中, 雖然句子的主語包含my wife及her mother, 但動詞是單數動詞.

但是,如果句子是:

My wife and her other go to church.

可看到動詞是複數動詞

其實, and 和as well as 為何會不同呢?

原來在英文裡, and 是coordinating conjunction (對等連接詞), 但as well as, along with, together with 等等,卻是quasi-coordinators ( 準對等連接詞).

用準對等連接詞連接主語第一個名詞, 不會影響動詞的單複數..
