direction and result

A prepositional phrase is locative but at the same time expresses a strong result---

eg. 

The audience booed the actors off the stage.

She laughed him out of the room..

to death

The jailers starved their prisoner to death.

Their taunting 嘲弄 drove the child to tears.

The little girl cried herself to sleep.
