    Scarcely...when
    No sooner...than...


e.g. Hardly had he come when I caught sight of him.


2. 用participle phrases


i) 取代and


e.g I sat on the couch and read my favorite book.
   > I sat on the couch, reading my favorite book.


ii) 取代when


e.g. When I sat on the couch, I grabbed something to eat.
 > Sitting on the couch, I grabbed something to eat. 


iii) 取代since


e.g. Since I was framed by the bully, I stormed out of the classroom. 
> Framed by the bully, I stormed out of the classroom.


iv) 取代after


e.g. After he had stolen my wallet, he dumped my student card into the litter bin. 
> Having stolen my wallet, he dumped my student card into the litter bin. 


3. It was not until ..that
    It was only when..that


e.g. It was not until I caught him red-handed that I knew I had mistrusted him.


4. 以生動的描述來代替直述


eg. he admitted this.> He nodded his head.
      He disapproved my behavior> he frowned at my behavior.
