1.        For example

Question: How do you connect these two sentences with “for example”?

“For example” is used in the following ways:

i)

S1V1O1. For example, S2V2O2

e.g. I like playing sports. For example, I play badminton twice every week.

ii)

S1V1O1; for example, S2V2O2

E.g. I like playing sports; for example, I play badminton twice every week.

iii)

S1V1O1, for example, noun phrase

e.g. I like playing sports, for example, basketball, volleyball and football.

X I like playing sport, for example, basketball, volleyball, etc.

2.        Such as

e.g. Many animals are becoming extinct, such as white tigers, sharks and pandas. 

l           Should be followed by noun or noun phrase, but NEVER a clause.

S1V1O1, such as + noun phrase

e.g. If you are good at Maths and Science, you are suitable for many jobs, such as you can be an engineer, a teacher and a scientist.

If you are good at Maths and Science, you are suitable for many jobs, such as

Don’t add a comma after “such as”.

XI like playing sports, such as, basketball, football and volleyball.

3.        Like

“Like” is similar to “such as” in usage.

E.g. I like playing sports like basketball and volleyball.

Note: In the example above, “like” is not a verb.
