Sample letter:
Dear Pat,
Glad to receive your letter. How’re things with you? I am sorry to hear that you’re scolded by your mom when you are doing what you like. But you somehow misbehave as you are indulged in playing video games.
You’re indulged partly because you need friends. You believe playing video games is a necessary part of your connections with others. But the key here is to prioritize what’s important to you. Is it more important for you to spend time playing video games than meeting friends? Frankly, if you think so, don’t expect others to come close to you!
I understand the pressure you’re under to study hard and to adapt yourself to the new study environment. But escaping into a virtual world isn’t the solution. You should learn to be more self-reliant and face your problems bravely. Try to talk with your parents and school counselor and they’ll give you some useful advice.
Now I’m not saying that playing video games is bad, but if you spend too much time playing them, your health and schoolwork will suffer. You’d better spend more time playing outdoors to romp in the sunshine ( I know your dad likes hiking very much), and playing sports with your friends.
Last, playing video games can indeed be a part of a well-balanced life, but if it interferes with your enjoyment of other things, then it’s time for you to set some limits. Do try to maintain a balance and get the best of what it offers. I’m sure your mum will finally understand.
Got to stop now-I have so much homework to do. Drop me a few lines when you have time and I hope my advice can help you.
Best wishes,
Chris
